Principal Certification in Educational Leadership
Penn State Great Valley - The Lancaster Center
The Principal Certification in Educational Leadership (Administrative Level I) program prepares teachers and supervisors to take administrative positions and helps candidates meet Pennsylvania certification requirements in K-12 educational administration. An educator holding a valid Pennsylvania certificate as a K-12 Principal is qualified to perform the following:
- Principal
- Assistant Principal
- Director of Pupil Services
- Supervisor of Curriculum and Instruction
- Supervision of single instructional or pupil service areas where 5 years of professional certificated service in that area can be documented by the superintendent.
Admission Requirements
Applicant must:
- hold a valid state-issued certificate related to education;
- schedule an interview with the program adviser prior to submitting application materials;
- submit all necessary forms, documentation, and fees.
- Students take 30 credits of course work.
- Students may take 9 credits on a nondegree basis.
- Students can start immediately and by the completion of the program, must have 5 years of professional school experience on a state-issued certificate.
- Students must meet qualifying score for the PRAXIS Educational Leadership: Administration and Supervision test (code 10410).
- Students must successfully pass the Precertification Competency Examination on Educating the Handicapped.
- Students must complete an e-Portfolio by the completion of the program.
Principal Certification course schedule
The Principal Certification Program offers courses in 7 and 14-week formats. Seven-week classes meet 2 evenings a week or a full day on Saturdays. Fourteen-week classes meet 1 evening a week or a half-day on Saturdays.
There are six 7-week sessions each academic year. Students may begin at the start of any session.
The Principal Certification Program is offered at Penn State Great Valley - Malvern, PA, Penn
State Lehigh Valley Corporate Learning Center in Bethlehem, PA, and Penn
State,The Lancaster Center.
